When traditional treatments haven’t worked, another option may help.

Living with depression, anxiety, or OCD can be exhausting, especially when medications or therapy haven’t provided the relief you hoped for. TMS is a non-invasive treatment option designed for people whose symptoms have not fully responded to standard approaches.

At Brain Treatment Center Glenview, we focus on helping patients understand their options and take the next step with clarity and confidence.

What is TMS?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive therapy that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate specific brain regions involved in mood and emotion regulation.

  • No anesthesia or sedation
  • No surgery
  • No systemic medication side effects
  • You can return to normal activities immediately after sessions

TMS is typically delivered over several weeks in short, outpatient sessions.

Conditions Treated with TMS

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

TMS is commonly used for those with depression who have tried multiple antidepressant medications without sufficient improvement.

Anxiety

TMS may help reduce anxiety symptoms, particularly when anxiety occurs alongside depression.

Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD)

FDA-cleared TMS protocols are available for certain OCD symptom patterns.

Your provider will determine whether TMS is appropriate based on your history and symptoms.

Insurance & coverage

TMS is covered by many major insurance plans when medical necessity criteria are met. Our team verifies benefits individually and helps guide you through the approval process. Plans we accept include:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL)
  • Cigna
  • Anthem
  • Medicare
  • TRICARE West (TriWest)

Coverage varies by plan, diagnosis, and treatment history. Insurance verification is completed during intake.

How do we determine whether TMS is a good fit?

TMS therapy is typically considered when depression, anxiety, or OCD have not responded well to standard treatments such as medication and psychotherapy. Before scheduling a consultation, our team takes time to understand each individual’s treatment history to determine whether TMS may be an appropriate next step.

To do this, we use a brief eligibility questionnaire that reviews factors commonly required for both clinical consideration and insurance coverage. This helps ensure consultations are focused, efficient, and appropriate for each person’s situation.

If TMS appears to be a potential fit based on this initial review, a member of our intake team will follow up to discuss next steps and answer any questions.

What happens next?

  1. Complete the eligibility questionnaire.
  2. Our intake team reviews your responses.
  3. If appropriate, we contact you to schedule a consultation and verify insurance.

If TMS is not the right fit at this time, we’ll discuss other options or next steps.

If you’re living with depression, anxiety, or OCD and traditional treatments haven’t provided enough relief, TMS may be an option worth exploring. Our short eligibility questionnaire helps determine whether you meet common clinical and insurance criteria before scheduling a consultation.
